1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small files that a website stores on (or reads from) your device while you browse. The same applies to similar technologies, such as a script that instructs your browser to send data to a server. Under Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC, as implemented in Spain by Article 22.2 of Law 34/2002 (LSSI-CE), in Romania by Article 4 of Legea 506/2004 and in Germany by § 25 TDDDG, such storage or access requires your consent unless it is strictly necessary.
2. What this site stores on your device
This website uses no cookies, neither its own nor third-party ones. We keep only two entries in your browser's local storage (localStorage), and only after you make a choice: “hurtia.stats” with your decision on statistics, value 1 (accepted) or 0 (rejected), and “hurtia.lang”, when you choose a language or close the language notice, with the language code (es, de, en, ro) or x (notice closed), so that the notice does not appear again. Neither entry contains an identifier, neither is ever sent to a server, and both serve only to remember your choice. They are strictly necessary for that purpose and therefore do not require consent. You can delete them at any time in your browser settings.
The page language and your theme preference (light/dark) are part of the page address (URL) and are not stored on your device. Through the “hurtia.lang” entry mentioned above, your browser only remembers that you have already answered the language notice; that entry does not determine which language is shown.
3. Web analytics (Umami)
We use Umami, open-source statistics software that we host on our own server at Hetzner in Germany (European Union). Umami does not use cookies, does not track users across websites, and the data is not shared with third parties. The script is only loaded if you click “Accept” in the notice; before that, nothing is loaded and nothing is sent.
After you accept, your browser sends our server the page visited, the referring page, the page title and the technical data of every request (IP address and browser); screen resolution, browser language and the parameters of the address (URL) are removed before sending. On the server, Umami forms a pseudonymous visitor identifier from the IP address, the browser and a key that changes every month, and derives an approximate country and city; the IP address is not stored. We only see aggregate statistics. The data is deleted automatically after 25 months.
Legal basis: your consent, both for the access to your device (Art. 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC and the national rules cited) and for the subsequent processing on our server (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR), via the “Statistics settings” link at the foot of every page or the button at the end of this page. If your browser sends “Do Not Track”, nothing is counted even if you have accepted.
4. Third-party resources
Typefaces, code libraries and images are served from our own server in the EU; opening the site loads nothing from third parties and sets no third-party cookies.
Only exception: if you open the origin map in the demo, your browser downloads map tiles from OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap Foundation, United Kingdom), which receives your IP address. OpenStreetMap sets no cookies through this site.
5. How to change or withdraw your choice
You can accept or reject statistics in the notice, using two equal buttons on the same layer. To change or withdraw your decision, use the “Statistics settings” link at the foot of every page or the button at the end of this page: the notice opens again and, if you choose “Reject”, sending stops immediately. Rejecting is as easy as accepting and does not limit your use of the site.
In addition, you can configure, block or delete storage and cookies from any website at any time through your browser settings (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge or other).
6. Changes to this policy
If we introduce further tracking technologies in the future, we will update this policy and, where legally required, obtain your prior consent through a system that lets you accept, reject and withdraw your choice at any time.
Manage your consent
You can change or withdraw your decision on statistics at any time. The button reopens the notice so you can accept or reject; if you reject, sending stops immediately.
For more information on how we process your personal data, including the transmission of your IP address to third-party providers, see our Privacy policy.
